San Marco

Piazza San Marco is one of the most fascinating in the world. It was built in the ninth century and then paved in 1177. In St Mark’s Square you can visit St Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, the Correr Museum, the Bell Tower and the Clock Tower.

Rialto Bridge

In the Grand Canal there are four bridges, the oldest is that of Rialto. It was built between 1588 and 1591, designed by the architect Antonio da Ponte, after the previous wooden structure was collapsed twice and burned on several occasions.
Crossing the Rialto Bridge from San Marco you can reach the Rialto Market, which takes place since 1097.

Biennale Gardens

The Biennale Gardens are located towards the eastern edge of Venice and were made by Napoleon at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The traditional venue of the Biennale Art Exhibitions since its first edition in 1895. The great success of 1907 started the construction of foreign pavilions that were added to the Central Pavilion. The Gardens now have 29 pavilions in foreign countries, some of them designed and built by famous architects, such as the Austrian pavilion by Josef Hoffmann.

La Fenice Theatre

The La Fenice theatre was inaugurated in 1996 and stands above the previous city theatres.
The construction of the first municipal theater was the architect Pietro Ghinelli in 1828 until 1830 but in 1838 the theater was destroyed by fire. The current La Fenice Theatre was designed by the architect Silvio Argentati.

Arsenale of Venice

The Arsenal at the pre-industrial time was the largest production center, it was an enormous complex of yards where the ships of the Serenissima were built. Since 1980 L'Arsenale di Venezia has become an exhibition space of the Venice Biennale.
